Florida is in the path of Irma, on some models, so his plans may change a lot in the coming days. I would advise against going I-10 across. Pick up I-20 and go north to Dallas, across into at least Mississippi before turning south.

Texas is a rather BIG state, and RV site availability in the Northern part might not be seriously impacted. From my experience with the Northridge Earthquake, which affected a much smaller area, RV parks and hotels were in high demand for about 18 months for displaced families and service employees. Over 400 parks in the RGV (Rio Grande Valley of Texas) with tons of sites available to enjoy the best weather of the year. They don't even get close to full until January.

RV parks along and south of I-10 between Corpus Christi and the Louisiana border and those north of I-10 around the Houston area and eastward will likely have a lot of workers and displaced residents for quite some time to come, if they are even able to open. Those in the northern part of the state may have more people than usual due to people being displaced by the storm. But I would not expect a big problem finding a place to stay on the northerly route.

There will be plenty of room in the Rio Grande Valley. No reservations needed.

Saw a post yesterday on a review group. A man who owns 3 parks in TX along the coast just raised his monthly rate from $595 to well over $1,000 per month. Of course the long term people who went thru the hurricane are stunned, cannot pay and need to find homes. When asked why? He said he was raising the rate to get rid of everyone and rent the sites out to the adjusters and utility workers etc who's companies would pay those rates. Everyone advised the poster to file complaints with the State. Price gouging after a disaster is illegal in TX and many other prone areas. So who knows how many sites will be open and affordable in any areas other than the RGV.

As mentioned already Texas is a very BIG place, I suspect finding camping sites will not be a problem as long as he is looking more than 50 miles away from the disaster areas. I spent the night in a commercial RV park last night in etreme NE Texas, and even during this ongoing active event it was half empty.

The Rio Grande Valley is nearly 400 miles from Houston.
