Oakland Ca camping

Hi,
I'll be volunteering at the boat show in Oakland in April.
the closest campground, I think, is the Anthony Chabot regional
park. Does anyone have any knowledge of this park? or another
nearby? I have heard that the campground is tight. we are in a
27 ft trailer.
thanks
  • The Chabot Campground does take a little bit of a drive to get to, It is up Redwood Road but it isn't all that bad to get to, the Campground at the Fairgrounds in Pleasanton is easy to get to, it is off Bernal Avenue on Hwy. 680.
No, I haven't stayed in either campground, I have lived in Oakland all my life.

    Bob in Calif.
  • have stayed at Anthony Chabot while visiting daughter in Emeryville. we really enjoyed the park and would stay there again.
  • Our daughter lives in Oakland and we have always had a problem with were to stay. Made our stay short, very short or left the MH home and stayed at a hotel. Last trip we tried the Alameda Fair Ground camp ground in Pleasanton. It was about a 25 minute drive, but there isn't much else out there unfortunately. I have made reservations at Anthony Chabot a few times and cancelled. Mountain roads and the closing of the gate to get in at 10pm made us reconsider. We didn't have a length issue.
Watch your back at all times, especially at the gas stations. Homeless hangout.
  • Your options are limited. While I believe Anthony Chabot is a decent park be advised that it will likely be a very heavy commute to Jack London Sq. My main concern would be security as Oakland tends to be a high crime area. Are they at least providing you car parking near the show?

You could look at BART for transportation and be much further away with a walk from the Lake Merritt station. I see CGs in Berkeley and Concord but don't know about them or BART access. Check the schedules and not the distance.

I've driven through Treasure Island MH and RV Park in South San Francisco and it's OK plus it's near BART. A BART transfer might be involved.
  • Being as you're volunteering at the boat show, and if you can boondock maybe they'll have a place there at the show where you can park and stay.
