Obtaining pet meds when on the road

How do folks handle getting refills on pet meds? Can you fill out of state scripts or do I need to find a local doc? Will be in southern AZ for most of the winter, staying roughly a week per campground.

  • Op here, a few things. Our vet doesn't provide info to the mail order places, says they are unreliable. Similar to what you hear about folks buying drugs from Mex or CAD. Our vet of course fills prescriptions, seems to be the way they all do things around here, you're stuck paying their prices.

Several have mentioned getting drugs or scrips mailed to us, has anyone ever gotten mail at a state park?

Good to know I can get many of these drugs filled at a WM or such. I can get the vet to write out a couple extra scripts for each drug. Don't know if any of them are pet specific, I can find out.

I mentioned having them just give us 3 months worth of each on the last visit, didn't get a direct answer. Mentioned giving me extra scripts.

too costly for shipping and if full time do you really know where you will be next week :)
  • There are many online pet med facilities. We have used several of them. The facility will contact your vet for the prescription and then send it to whatever address you put on the order. Our dog has a compounded medication that can only be obtained from 1 pharmacy. Once the vet gave the initial prescription with refills, I created an online account and can order and pay whenever I need the meds. She then sees the vet in the spring and a new year of refills are ordered. I have used 1800petmeds many times.
  • Our vet would just mail us a 3 month supply of our cat's thyroid medicine to our mailing address.

  • Super Target is another place that will do Pet Meds. Had to laugh when I filled out the patient form for our cat, and saw the checkbox for feline.

The rest of that story is we were on our way north when I need the antibiotics for the cat. The Vet down south called in the script. 20 minutes later we go to pick up the medicine only to hear it was in two parts each being $100. That don't work for me, so the pharmacist called the vet, and between the two of them found a antibiotic on Targets $4.00 list. Problem solved, cat did great.
  • your vet could send their script to a veterinarian close to you. should not be a problem
  • yep, we've Walmart and Walgreens pharmacy for the dogs prescriptions. Probably can't get all the meds that a Vet might have though.

  • We use Walmart Pharmacy. Our Vet sends them just like our personal prescriptions.
