In addition, refills are not allowed with Schedule II drugs and many states and insurance companies only allow you to get up to a month’s worth on a single prescription. But your doctor can write multiple prescriptions for a total of up to 90 days worth—for example, three 30-day prescriptions—with instructions to the pharmacist to fill them sequentially. If you need to take the drug for longer than three months, though, you’ll need to go back to your doctor for another prescription.

What we do if traveling is have MD mail script to local pharmacy.
Sn picks it up. We figure out where we will be in 4-5 days call a small town Post office, tell them we are traveling and our son is mailing a package which we would like held then we have it PRIORITY MAILED to that Post Office and pick it up there.

A lot of people don't understand the newer regulations on Class 2 Controlled prescriptions. We had to really research it when the new regs kicked in last October.

They can't be faxed, called in or sent to the pharmacy electronically. They must be handwritten by the doctor.

But, a doctor can post date handwritten scripts for up to 90 days supply. We are on a trip now and my wife took 2 postdated scripts with her. We had one filled in NM last week, and we plan to fill the last one in CO next month.

For a few months, her doc also wanted her to come in each month to pick up the script. As he got more comfortable with the new regs she had discussions with him about travelling. He eventually agreed to postdate the scripts.

Now, my doctor would not do it for me if I were to ask so it can depend on the doctor and their own policy. But it can be done for 90 days as the feds allow it.

I wonder if Skype visits would count?

A lot of answers here, but they're not addressing the issue. The issue is NOT that you need to find a pharmacy, the issue is you cannot get your wife's prescription filled withOUT a monthly office visit. Whether it's the doctor's orders or the insurance or FDA's rules, you're in a bind. Talk to your doctor, explain what is going on. I DO know people that travel and take narcotic drugs....there is a solution, but only your doctor can help you. Maybe he/she would allow you to go to an Urgent Care and be checked by doctor and fax the records to your doctor......and then he/she can prescribe for you. Good luck.

Talk to your Doctor and ask what the restrictions are. What I would recommend is that you call her/his office and tell them the name and city of the nearest pharmacy and have them send an "escript" to that pharmacy. If he requires a blood test then locate a close Lab such as Lab Corp. to have the blood work done.

If your Doctor does not want to help you out perhaps you need to find another doctor. You might also look at Costco Pharmacy options if you are close to one. You do not need to be a member to use the Cost Pharmacies

Don't know your situation but new regulations here on narcotic drugs require you to be seen monthly by the doctor prescribing the drugs, in addition the doctor can require you to have blood tests etc to insure you are not abusing the narcotics.

We have good luck with WALMARTS and CVS PHARMACY when on the road. They all talk with each other as far as records are concerned..

A lot of regulations now on narcotics. Good, legitimate doctors will not call of fax in a narcotic prescription anymore. Them might do it for a few pills for an emergency until they can see you but that is about it anymore.
