Fishers...my company has an office there.
I go to OBX all the time and yes the wind can be tough and bugs can be tough but I would not let it stop me from going. Usually the wind takes care of the bugs for the most part. If you plan to spend a lot of time on the beach I sure would not worry about it. When you need to worry about it is when you go hiking like on the bird walks or thru grass land to fishing spot, then they will really tear you up. I say take bug spray, be mindful around dawn and dusk, and don't ever leave your camper with the awning up and you will be just fine.
