Also, any advice on whether or not to leave my TV in "tow mode" going down those grades? It was some years ago the last time I went via I-64. At that time I had a smaller trailer and only a 1/2 ton TV but I never thought I'd make it up some of those grades. I wasn't even thinking about tow mode...just thinking I was never going to be able to get out of the state without leaving the trailer behind. Since then I've always gone via I-70 towards DC then south.
I now have a 3/4ton diesel but a larger fiver too. I'm heading to OBX in mid-June but I'm still leery and plan on going the DC route again. Maybe others will chip in with their experiences.
