OBX Cape Hatteras KOA in late June?

Just left Ocean Waves next door yesterday. KOA got nailed again last year by two major storms. They are valiantly rebuilding again and it looks kike they will be in good shape by June, if not before.
Enjoy - OBX are as beautiful as ever despite nature's battering.

Headed there in a couple of days. Saturday can't get here fast enough.

We have been going down to the Outer Banks since 1977 faithfully. You will not have much trouble with bugs this time of year. August thru October is more of an issue. Generally dawn and dusk are the worst times. With that being said you may see a few especially if you go over to the sound side around shrubs. We just left Ocean Waves last weekend and are heading back next weekend for a week. The KOA is rebuilding and there are a lot of activities for your kids there. You all have a safe trip and lots of fun. You will enjoy.

We are headed in June 22nd, staying through the 29th.

I'm hoping the rebuild will be mostly done by then, as I have been reading some "less than good" reviews lately, because of the reconstruction.

We are next door at Camp Hatteras. I must say the new KOA clubhouse/office/whatever is pretty impressive. They also have a new paved entrance that is about 4 lanes deep. This area has been clobbered with bad weather ever since Sandy last fall, and it shows.

Search YouTube and you will find two things...How well KOA is rebuilding...How bad the beach has taken a beating from waves...Amazing there are basically no dunes left at KOA and Camp Hatteras. PM me and I will send link of where the videos are located

Not a big deal, but there's still a temporary bridge across a washover (from Sandy?) on NC 12. It's located a little ways south of Oregon Inlet, and has ample warning signs and a 25 MPH speed limit. It's decked with steel plates, and is pretty narrow. I met a class A in the Tiger on it 2 weeks ago, and the pucker factor was moderately high.

So far, I don't see any sign of NCDOT working on a more permanent solution, but the narrow road there doesn't really encourage a lot of lookee-looing.

There was also still debris and sand piles right beside the road in the first community south of there.

Yes there is still the temp bridge and I agree, 25 mph is the max speed pulling anything. When we went over a few weeks ago it was dry underneath. I think the Corp of Engineers will not allow DOT to fix it and if any Noreasters come up I am sure it will flow again. The S curve still has sand right up to the highway on the east side.

Just watch out for the folks who are driving too fast for these conditions and you will be fine.

People are hitting that temporary bridge too fast and are losing stuff. While there for a week we saw muffler parts and many unidentified objects on or near the bridge. My daughter hit something with her toad and tore up a front tire. Had to wait two hours at 11:30 PM for road service.
So, just keep an eye out for unexpected debris on and near the bridge and you will be just fine.
