Ocala National Forest CGs

We are going to the Tampa show in mid January and would like to spend a few nights in Ocala NF. Does anyone know if they have a percentage of sites available as first come and what are the chances of getting a site for a 45' MH? On line reservations show full so I'm thinking a lot of people may stop there on the way to Tampa. Thanks
  • Call the district ranger's office. They usually have accurate info with more detail than you can find online.
  • We have found that Fed CGs often have quite a few sites blocked from online reservations. Call RA or the park for better info.
  • The campgrounds without hookups ( Clearwater, Juniper Springs and Alexander Springs will likely have plenty of sites, since most people don't like to "dry camp" or "boondocks". On the other hand, Salt Springs will likely be full, since it has W/E sites.
Junuper and Alexander Springs are very nice, if you do not need hookups. Clearwater is so, so. (IMHO)
  • If you can't get in there try Crystal River and/or Rainbow Springs Park area CG's, Rock Crusher always get 'great' reviews here on the forum as there are quite a few other than the State Parks. There's Goethe State Park, and Rainbow Springs State Park if that is what you want though too.

Beautiful bright blue crystal clear natural springs at Rainbow and see the manatees in Crystal river.

IMHO all in this are are MUCH nicer places than ocala National Forest and they are all within 20 minutes of Ocala. And if you like great seafood by the shore,Charlie's in Crystal river should not be missed! :C
