Ocean City MD - - Campground info Please

Hello,

Looking to take a trip to visit Ocean City, MD this summer. Found two cmpgrounds that I would like to get opinions on.

The first is Fort Whaley/Frontier Town. Looks like this may be 2 seperate CG's, what is each like?

The second is Castaways RV Resort.

Like to hear what you have to say about either.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Sun Coast has taken over all three camp grounds mentioned here. There have been some big changes at Frontier Town so if the water park is important to you check to be sure it's still included.
There are almost 700 new sites scheduled to come on line in the area soon, maybe the price pressure will lessen.

Bucky...how are these almost 700 new sites coming about?? New CG, Expansion of existing CG??

  • We have stayed at both Frontier Town and Ft Whaley, both of them more or less geared to families with kids, of the two, Frontier Town is the better one. Besides being bigger there is more to do. If staying at Ft Whaley, you do have passes to the Water Park at Frontier Town. We also have stayed at Castaways, and had a great time, yes it cost a little more, but is a bit nicer, with more water front area, if you choose. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!
  • Never stayed at Fort Whaley, only drove through once. I remember the sites being similar to Frontiertown. They are classic beach sites-sandy with some grass. Some sites have shade-others are full sun. I personally would pick Frontiertown over Fort Whaley if you can get a site.
  • Drove past Frontier Town a couple of years ago when we stayed at Assateague. It was crazy busy. Looked fun....and overwhelming.
If you like chaos, it's the place for you.

We loved Assateague. I'm sure the electric sites are gone now, but maybe check back for a cancellation and you'll get lucky.

Frontiertown and Fort Whaley are sister campgrounds owned by same corporation. Frontiertown is waterfront. Fort Whaley is more inland. Frontiertown has a water park that is free to campers, pool, marina, crabbing and fishing piers, and now zip line course. This campground is probally more of a "kid-friendly" campground. Lots of activities and golf carts. Kind of a noisy/people(kids) everywhere type of campground.
Castaways is also a waterfront campground. Tends to be a little more quiet. There is a beach area, pools, crabbing and fishing piers, and marina too.
We used to always go to Frontiertown when our kids were younger, now we go to Castaways. We really prefer Castaways. The sites are a little nicer. We love the beach area with the beach front bar and daily live music. FYI- Castaways has become really popular-can be hard to get sites. If you are thinking of going this summer-better call quickly. Most sites are probally already booked.
**Have never stayed at Fort Whaley-most people only go there because Frontiertown is full. You can use all the facilities at Frontiertown if you stay at Fort Whaley.

How do the sites compare between Fort Whaley and Frontier Town? Is one nicer than the other?

    Thanks,

    Ryan
  • We've stayed at Castaways a couple of times and it is very nice. It is costly in the summer, close to $75 to $100 a night last we knew. There is lots for kids to do and a short drive to the boardwalk.
