Sadly. There are very few oceanfront campgrounds anywhere BUT Myrtle Beach. In fact. Between Myrtle beach to the NC outer Banks. there is only ONE, and it is tiny. We ain't all gonna fit. And as far as I know from visiting Charleston. there are no oceanfront campgrounds there. The only one I know of is at Edisto beach.
And as The outer Banks are 9 to 10 hours away, and it's a good long way to Edisto as well. Most of us are stuck with Myrtle Beach, unless we want to spend a huge part of our time off traveling. It would be nice to have another place to go. But with the lack of Campgrounds. It's just not going to happen. So we just pick the CG we like the best, and go there. Often, We never leave the CG. Everything we want is right there.
and before you suggest staying off the beach. Willow Tree, KOA, Lanier's Wherever. Remember. The ONLY reason to go to the beach is to be ON the beach. To be able to walk out of the camper, and onto the beach. IF I had to drive to the beach from the CG. I'd just stay home.
So until other beach towns build CGs. Myrtle it is. Holden had a CG, But it was bought out and closed, as did Oak Island.
BTW. WE, My wife and I, have only driven thru Downtown Myrtle ONCE in the past 38 years, and that was only to see how it looked after they moved the Pavilion. The Pavilion was a important place in most of my generation's youth. We learned to Shag there, ate out first FootLong, and met our beach sweethearts there. Some of us even slept on top of it after Graduation. So you see. MB is a special place to many of us. It was, and is the place to go to the beach.
