I love reading these posts..
I have a GC and I drive it as do my 3 grown over 18 kids and they drove them when they turned 16. You allow them to drive a car on the main roads but you are afraid for them to drive in campground?? I do believe OL is crowded. Would I return YES, Next May 2014, why because is $25 a night cheaper to go then. I have been one to camp @ 3 major camp grounds at Myrtle beach. MBTP is nice and I liked it, would I go again YES. BUT I do like the concrete sites at OLCG. I do not like the sand spurs you get at MBTP but I would camp there again in a minute. I have visited every other camp ground at myrtle beach and stayed at the new one on the inter-coastal waterway. it was Nice but you are not at the beach, close but still have to drive to do anything. I have stayed a Willowtree and did so last week. I like Willowtree but it is 9-12 miles away from everything but a food lion and dollar general. Willowtree was just about empty last week. only 20 campers, the rest that were there are annual lease sites or employees and in the middle of the week I felt like we were the only people there. Had the pool to ourselves and grandson. Rode my golf cart around only so much but nothing to see or do really. They are adding houses to back side of the CG so things are changing there too. Snowbird central and annual leasing seems to be the norm now.
OLCG is crowded and it's not for everyone!
Thats why Myrtle beach area has best I can say 8 campgrounds. 5 are ocean front (Ocean Lakes, Lakewood, Pirateland, Apache, Travel Park), one(KOA)two blocks back from ocean, one on the water way(Cypress CG)several miles from beach, one(Willowtree) 9-12 miles from Cherry Grove beach. And if all else fails you can stay at "Myrtle Manor".
We like OLCG and Willowtree but with my grandson only 2 years old we want beach front camping now. Our youngest graduated HS this year and is headed to college, we are almost empty nester's and we want to have a good time so we are going in MAY(bike week too :)! & going to take our GC and have a blast..
