Ocean lakes mess

Have spent the week in ocean lakes at myrtle beach. This park is completely out of control. The children on golf carts rule the roads from 8:30 pm on....trying to walk the dog is an exercise in simple survival. It is 12:39 and I am parked next to an extremely loud and obnoxious party next door. Security has chosen not to interfere. I will never ever come back here again.

Boy do I hear you on the kids on golf carts in CG's nowadays.:(

Parents put their kids on those golf carts the minute they wake up and tell them not to come back until dinner time.

I stayed at a CG in Kentucky where the kids would run right up on your site to the side door of your RV with the golf cart! Going round and round the park all over and over until night fall. Many times just about running campers over that are out for a walk.

CG's need to start clamping down on this. I'd rather see kids riding their bikes and whooping and hollering having a good ole time in the CG than see them on these darn golf carts running people over.

It's the age of the ease of emails. RV'ers need to start dropping emails to these CG's about the use of golf carts. Maybe they will see the light.

We go to Myrtle Beach several times in the summer but don't camp because we have a house there. I did drive thru Ocean Lakes last year just to check it out. It was middle of summer and it did look over-crowded..... I don't mind a busy, full cg but OL looked like a cluster to me.

In North Myrtle beach they have gotten very strict on the golf carts but some cg's don't monitor the golf cart rules very well at all. Word got out that the cart would be taken immediately if the age and speed rules were broken it would spread fast, and no refund if your under age kid gets caught. I saw this a lot at Beth Page, young kids flying around but they don't play now, they'll get ya.

I leave for Myrtle Beach tomorrow morning!

That's why we go to PirateLand. They are VERY strict on golf carts. Kids driving them will get them taken with no refund, and a fine. Out after 11;00 PM will get them taken, no refund, and a 75 dollar fine. At PirateLand. 2 minutes after 11 pm. Not a cart in sight, and it is quite. So quite, you can hear the waves breaking on the beach like you are supposed to.

And security is ever present. They sit at both intersections of the roads that go to the exit, all during the nightly golf cart parade. Stop traffic to let RVs in. The others, drive by every 15 miniutes, and to stop a party after 11. Just tell them about it. But usually they take care of it before you have a chance.

That's why we never go there between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Once the "little darlings" are back in school, sanity returns and it is lovely.

Excellent way to put it. :B

We expect to see kids during the summer break. We had kids, and were kids once. It does not bother us. Just go there when school is in session. The season is short for young people with kids.

  • That's why we choose MBTP. Or at least one of the reasons. It always seems to be sane and under control there. Note we have two teenaged boys, and even they don't like OL!

  • We just got back from MB. We were shocked to see several teens on golf carts on the road, in traffic, at the Ocean Lakes intersection while passing by. It appeared they were heading back in after going to a nearby store.

OL a little to "busy" for us...

    To each his own.
  • Sounds like fun!

Did you call security about the party and they told you they wouldn't do anything about it?

Children on golf carts....how old are they? They have to 16 yrs old and have a license.

Complaining here won't fix anything. You need to complain to Ocean Lakes and their security department. If they don't do anything, then go into the office in the morning and complain about the complaints and the security department.

Threatening of not going back won't hurt them as you can see, there will be another RV to fill your spot. Not trying to sound harsh, but it's the truth. You have to expect some of what you are seeing with nearly 1000 campsites (probably near full) and the tons of houses there. I think I've read you can expect about 40,000 inside the campground on a typical summer day.
