Have spent the week in ocean lakes at myrtle beach. This park is completely out of control. The children on golf carts rule the roads from 8:30 pm on....trying to walk the dog is an exercise in simple survival. It is 12:39 and I am parked next to an extremely loud and obnoxious party next door. Security has chosen not to interfere. I will never ever come back here again.

Sounds like fun! Did you call security about the party and they told you they wouldn't do anything about it?Children on golf carts....how old are they? They have to 16 yrs old and have a license. Complaining here won't fix anything. You need to complain to Ocean Lakes and their security department. If they don't do anything, then go into the office in the morning and complain about the complaints and the security department. Threatening of not going back won't hurt them as you can see, there will be another RV to fill your spot. Not trying to sound harsh, but it's the truth. You have to expect some of what you are seeing with nearly 1000 campsites (probably near full) and the tons of houses there. I think I've read you can expect about 40,000 inside the campground on a typical summer day.

We just got back from MB. We were shocked to see several teens on golf carts on the road, in traffic, at the Ocean Lakes intersection while passing by. It appeared they were heading back in after going to a nearby store.OL a little to "busy" for us...To each his own.

That's why we never go there between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Once the "little darlings" are back in school, sanity returns and it is lovely.

That's why we choose MBTP. Or at least one of the reasons. It always seems to be sane and under control there. Note we have two teenaged boys, and even they don't like OL!

We go to Myrtle Beach several times in the summer but don't camp because we have a house there. I did drive thru Ocean Lakes last year just to check it out. It was middle of summer and it did look over-crowded..... I don't mind a busy, full cg but OL looked like a cluster to me. In North Myrtle beach they have gotten very strict on the golf carts but some cg's don't monitor the golf cart rules very well at all. Word got out that the cart would be taken immediately if the age and speed rules were broken it would spread fast, and no refund if your under age kid gets caught. I saw this a lot at Beth Page, young kids flying around but they don't play now, they'll get ya.I leave for Myrtle Beach tomorrow morning!

If you would still like to visit the area without the Ocean Lakes mess, check out Huntington Beach State Park just to the south of Myrtle Beach. Very nice park. Very quiet compared to the others in the area. From their website:

A lot less campsites and often harder to get into than the other campgrounds. Also, the campground part is not really oceanfront, which could be a negative or positive for some. Also no sewer, wifi or cable and other amenities (pool, not sure if HBSP has a laundry or not, store, restaurant, kids activities, adult activities, shows, and more) that some may want. Distance is about 11 miles south of ocean lakes, further away from myrtle beach if you are looking to be closer to myrtle beach.

Not gas powered. I electric, you will have to ask them directly about it. But golf carts have to have $50,000 liability insurance on them.

Quiet a few security folks out about 3pm. Saw at least 5 security vehicles circling. Busy. But not out of control.

Some back in the 4000 section as well. It's so quiet back here, the entertainment yesterday was watching the neighbor seal his roof. Lol

You are not alone. A quick check of travel review websites shows there are a lot of other rvers who agree with you.
