Off Grid/Boondocking Water Questions

Hello, I'm gathering data on Off grid RVing, boondocking and water needs.
How do you conserve water when off boondocking?
How much water do you take with you?
How do you refill your water tanks/jerry cans or what other solutions do you use?

Thanks!

Take one pallet (what you can buy in grocery stores) of water per person. A big 5 gallon jug for "just in case.

Half a trillion plastic bottles are being produced annually, most of them for beverages. Spend a few more $ and buy refillable ones from Amazon. Use that 5 gallon jug.

I guess I can answer the questions too?

How do you conserve water when off bondocking? I don't leave taps running and only flush when solids are in the toilet bowl.

How much water do you take with you? 85 gallons, 20 in the trailer, 65 in the truck bed

How do you refill your water tanks/jerry cans or what other solutions do you use? Refill from my truck bed tank. Working full time, the best I can hope for is a few days off plus a weekend, haven't even come close to using 85 gallons in five days.
  • We often camp by the Smith river, the third cleanest in the US. So I fill our water from that if necessary. Obviously we don't drink or cook with it. We are in the river during the day and can bath there. Use hand sanitizer after #1s. Paper dishes ect... We could go three weeks if necessary.
  • I have a 35 gallon tank and I take an extra 5 gallon portable tank.
I can boondock for 5-7 days; Navy showers and conserve the dishwashing.

I put a restriction on the toilet which really helped. I carry an empty 5 gallon
tank with me and fill it when I have an opportunity.

Navy showers. Get in, wet down, turn off water, soap up, rinse. Paper plates, wipe off utensils, wash only if needed. Take one pallet (what you can buy in grocery stores) of water per person. A big 5 gallon jug for "just in case. Most of our boon docking is desert time so we tend to load up.

How long can you usually camp before having to go into town to refill or buy more bottled water?
