Ohio,Cowan State Campgrounds

On 8/13/2013 the showers & restrooms were (Deplorable)! They stunk, were filthy from the floors to the cobwebbed walls & ceilings. This condition was (NOT) from a weekend use. There are Hosts camped there also,(Shameful)! Don't blame the cutbacks (Clean or Close)!!:( Youroo!!
  • I was there at the same time (10th through 13th) on site 129 and used the bath house closest to our site. The bath house could really use an update and the DW complained about moldy shower curtains. We only used them 1 night due to limited water in the TT but they seemed clean for the age and did not smell. We still like Cowan because of the large sites and the proximity to the great bike trail.
  • I have stayed there many times and never had a complaint but its been a year or 2 since I was last there. I will let you know as I am going there this weekend
  • Cowan Lake is the oldest and smallest of three state parks in the area. I used to go tent camping there with my folks when I was a kid (like 60 years ago). Caesar Creek is close to I71 and East Fork St. Park is close to I-275 in Cincinnati. They're both larger and newer than Cowan Lake. With Ohio's budget woes, it wouldn't surprise me if Cowan Lake closed and/or went on the market.
  • Sorry, the cutbacks are real. Sounds like you'd rather they close? (Ontario has done that as a means of handling their cutbacks.)
  • To be fair to the hosts - they probably are not required to clean bathrooms. We have worked as camphosts here in Washington for 6 years or so and do not clean bathrooms. That said - if someone complains, we find those who should be cleaning them. That is terrible to have such dirty bathrooms in a state park - in any state.
