OK to visit Napa and/or Sonoma?

We're presently near Klamath, planning to head south on Monday. We had wanted to visit the Napa Valley, hadn't heard if the after shocks were continuing and if most places were open. Would love to hear any up to date information. Also, does anyone have a good CG in the nearby area to recommend? Thanks in advance for your help. Also need a CG. near Santa Barbara and the best places to visit there. Thanks again,

Susan

  • Our daughter lives in the area and there are no problems that would keep you away. Go for it!

Sonoma - we've stayed at Sonoma County Fairgrounds. They take all kinds of RV discounts and have full hookups.

Napa - Napa Valley Expo is the place to go - full hookups

    Have a great trip!

Thanks for your responses, will check the state parks. Also, thanks for the recs for SB. I really appreciate all the information.

Last time we were throught Napa, we stayed at Bothe-Napa Valley State Park.

    Bothe Napa SP

I wouldn't be concerned about visiting that area right now because of the earthquake. Go and enjoy!

  • El Capitan, as the person above said. Also Refugio. South of Santa Barbara is Carpinteria. These are all state parks, so check out Reserve America. Ocean Mesa is very expensive (about $100) , and while nice enough, not worth it. Another RV park option is in Flying Flags (or something with Flag in the name) in Buellton. That would be about 30 mins from SB. There are also some federal parks inland from SB, but they might be rather hot this time of year. Also look on Reserve America. In SB - there is a California MIssion, and it is particularly lovely. There is also a great botanical garden with native plants. Walking/shopping/eating along State Street is good. If you like art, there is a nice art museum on State Street. Then, of course, there are the beaches. Oh, and wine tasting.

If you drive south on Hwy 1, make sure you stop and see the Elephant Seals just south of the Piedras Light House (just north of Hearst Castle) Of course, that is a very scary ride. If you take the 101 and like to hike, stopping at Pinnacles National Monument is pretty cool.

I would not worry about aftershocks. You probably would not even feel them in a trailer. As for having another sizable one? well that can happen anywhere in CA, but probably will not.
  • El Capitan State Beach west of Santa Barbara has a great campground, no hookups, and it will most likely be full. Ocean Mesa RV Park is just across the 101 from El Cap and is very nice.
