Omaha, NE...things to do

Making our first trip to Omaha, going to our first CWS!
Wanted to know if anyone had suggestions on other things to do while there?

The first thing I found out is that there are slim pickings when it comes to RV parks @ the area.

We are staying at the Louisville SRA campground.

I am hoping it is like most state parks and is nice. The bad thing is there is not a lot of review info out there for these area parks so it is a blind test.

Again any suggestions or advice would be very much appreciated

    Thanks!
I did try to get into the Mahoney State Park but the web site said it was full...that is the reason we are were we are.

I'm not a big KOA fan so I did not even look there.

We enjoy state parks just hope its clean & quiet.

I would almost bet we hit the casino....just to make the wife happy!

I will look into both the brewery's!

    Again...all a BIG help!
  • Some things - Lots of activities around the CWS and Old market will be crowded. I think there is a winery close to springfield I think you will Drive by on the way up to Omaha.

The Zoo is very nice and large, I think it is a two day affair if you want to see everything. They just built a new aquarium there I think....Also in the same area is an IMax if you want...

There are casino's right across the river in Council Bluffs.

You should walk across the Bob Kerry Pedestrian bridge, very close to the stadium.

Other campsites - there is a KOA in Gretna, probably no spaces left. Two Rivers SRA, small state park. Also Mahoney State Park, probably the same distance away as Louisville. It is a very large park with a lot of stuff to do, fishing, hiking, indoor playground and outdoor pool with slides and other things. IT is right next to the SAC museum and also a Drive Through Zoo(I have never been there).

One of the things I think is under-rated in Omaha is the resturants, lots of good locally owned places. Also, if you are into brewing, you may want to visit Lucky Bucket brewery for a tour or stop by Upstream Brewery for supper.

Thanks for the info, I have a frend that lives in Papillion, NE just south of the city and closer to the campground so that should work in our favor.
I will keep you in mind if I have any questions & thanks for the offer.
  • I'm not 100% familiar with where that Louisville SRA campground is, besides it's down by Louisville. Almost stayed there once for fun.

I do know that you'll be south of Omaha, and when you drive up, you'll be closer to the west end of Omaha.

The CWS is downtown, the zoo is a bit further east yet. There will be tons for you to do around the CWS, downtown is right there, and so is the Old Market.

SAC is further to your west, i think in Ashland, never been.

Bring lots of Louisiana folk with you, we know how you like to party!

Message me if you have anything specific, i'll try to help. I tend to stay out west away from the hustle and bustle, but i at least live here.
  • We've never been there so I don't have any advice about the best places to go but I've been making maps to help with planning as we travel. Might give you some ideas - Nebraska Iowa

    Have fun!

Take a GPS. It's easy to get lost finding your way into and out of the park! You'll enjoy it, I'm sure. Still a good clip from Omaha, but not hard. If you're just looking for a stopover while attending the CWS, consider staying at the RV parks in Council Bluffs just across the river. Very close to the stadium. Have fun. Win.
  • The Strategic Air Command could be a really cool visit!
    Thanks!
  • I've been to the Henry Doorly Zoo and it is pretty nice. I also think the Strategic Air Command has a museum in the area. Haven't been there yet but want to go.
