Oregon Beach Camping

DW and I are heading out this week to drive the Oregon coast. We are starting out in Crescent City, CA and driving north along hwy 101.
I have done quite a bit of research regarding State Parks along the way, but we're not quite sure which ones will most easily accommodate our 36' TH. If you have any suggestions we would appreciate your input, especially something on, or close to beach areas.

Thanks in advance!
  • We will stay in Crescent City till labor day then we will head north along the coast from Sept 2nd - 7th. So maybe most of the weekend campers will have cleared out by then.
Looks like there is availability at a few of the state parks I have checked so far. I just hate to make reservations because we don't want to be committed to a schedule, but then again we want to be sure we can find a place to park along the way.

Thanks for the replies so far, we are looking forward to this trip.

Trying to have it both ways makes the reservation task difficult at best. i.e. not committing to reservation in advance and hoping you will still be able to be able to find a park to stay in. I look at reservations a little different, making reservations does not committ me to a locked in schedule, but rather it is just a plan to deviate from should my plans change. You can always cancel a reservation and you loose a nights fee. Consider it the price for not being committed to a schedule. Best to check the cancellation policy of any park.

  • Yikes, you are driving right into the Labor Day weekend camping madness.
Is it at all possible to wait until next week? Camp sites are more than likely booked solid this coming weekend pretty much up the entire Coast...especially the State Parks for a 36 footer.

Anyway, good luck and enjoy the trip. The Oregon Coast is a fantastic RV destination.
  • Check and see which state parks are on a first come, first serve. We can always find a spot during the week if we get in on the early side.
  • Elks organization? No..
Will it still be that busy in early Sept during the week? I will look into the reservation system and see what I can find.

The demand lightens up in the winter months because kids are back in school. But not all the parks are open year round. If you get north as far as Seaside, check out Circle Creek RV park. Great park, will handle your rig and friendly owner. It is also a good home base from which to plan many different day trips. 30 min. to Astoria, 15 min. to Cannon Beach and 2 hrs. to Portland.

You need to start making your reservations TODAY. Oregon state park campgrounds are extremely popular and difficult to reserve. Would strongly recommend you have a back up plan for a private RV Park in or near each city you want to RV camp. Go on line and search for Oregon State parks, which give you a list of all the state parks and size of rigs they can accomdate. Do you belong to the Elk's Organization?
  • Any of the Oregon state parks will be close to or on the ocean. Take your pick
