Kinda agree, since I live here. However, another possibility would be the Port of Siuslaw RV park.....right on the river. If you get a riverside site you can throw your crab pot off the front of your site, practically....and lots of grass for the dog.

I'd stay at two or three state parks in some different spots. Even that super duper high rated motor coach park that was brought up has everybody jammed together on concrete pads. The very close (public) beach is cool and I'm sure it's a nice place, but just up the road in Beverly Beach State Park you'll pay less than half as much and you'll have a much more scenic campground with more privacy at each campsite. The beach is a little bit more of a walk but is still close at hand. Just my opinion.

I'm a really big fan of the Oregon State parks along the coast in terms of what they offer for the price.

Concrete pads are perfect for leveling your coach....much better than soil where you have to put blocks down for the levelers and then re-level every few days due to compressing the soil. And I hardly think a 40' x 70' lot is "jammed together". But, to each his own.

Beverly Beach is a GREAT campground; however, you better make reservations months in advance as it is very popular during the summer months. South Beach state park on the other side of the Yaquina bridge is also a good state park. Keep in mind that most state parks are limited with sites that can accommodate a 40'+ motor home....there are some, but not a whole lot and they are reserved quickly.

OP never said what type of rv he has.... could make a big difference.

Some years back we arrived at Pacific Shores with reservation - had a very nice 5th wheel. Seems it was after one of the times (as I understand it there have been a few) it had been sold and was now Class A only place. Even with written reservation confirmation in hand (and they with my deposit $) they told us - with quite an attitude - we could not stay and reservation was no longer valid. And please get out of their driveway. Without getting my money back.

New to the area we had not a clue where else to try to look and it was late afternoon.

I tried the polite but firm approach and got nowhere.

So then we had a short "discussion" and as I was about to call the local police department they decided they would honor our reservation but not at the assigned spot (which was hand picked and very nice) and we wound up out by the dumpster or whatever way in the back.

A guy could have a very expensive DRV Elite Suites 5er and very expensive truck and be worth much more than some of the "coaches" that go in there.

We just chuckle every time we now go past the place. There are a lot of very nice RV parks of all kinds along the Coast.

We had a great stay at Beverly Beach SP and would definately stat there again.

Old memory indeed. As an owner of Pacific shores, I humbly apologize for your inexcusable experience. I'm not sure when this happened, but I'm assuming it was back when Pacific Shores was owned and operated by Outdoor Resorts of Oregon. Due to experiences like what happened to you and poor management in general, Outdoor Resorts of Oregon declared bankruptcy and the lot owners got together and purchased Pacific Shores and run it with their own HOA.

Unfortunately, and as with most, if not all, newly founded HOAs, they did have some growing pains in the first few years, but all problems have been eliminated and is now a well run resort such that it is now a 5-star resort with a Good Sam 10-10-10 rating (very rare).

Yes, Pacific Shores doesn't cater to any "trailer" type rv. However, in addition to Class A's, it also allows Class C's. The reason for this is not a Pacific Shores requirement, but a City of Newport requirement. When Outdoor Resorts initially applied for their building permit to completely redesign and renovate the park, the city of Newport required this restriction in order to insure that the park become a "resort" . So please, do not blame Pacific Shores for this restriction. Therefore the name was changed, at that time, to: Pacific Shores MOTORcoach resort.

Current reservation procedures today by anyone making a reservation via phone, the caller is questioned on the type, year, an size of their rv. If for some strange reason this was not asked and if you showed up at Pacific Shores with a trailer, you not only would be given your deposit returned immediately, you also would receive an heartfelt apology plus explicit directions to any number of nearby rv parks/campground.

If making reservation via the web site, it clearly states Class A and Class C rv's only.

I hope this helps to remove any bad feelings you may have towards Pacific Shores in your mistreatment of many years ago. Pacific Shores HOA has strived to make and keep this resort a pleasant place for our customers to spend time on the beautiful Oregon Coast.

We have not stayed in many of the State Parks on the OR Coast but we have found most of them to be more sandy than grass. Our new favorite is Winchester Bay RV resort and there is quite a bit of grass at the sites but the big dog walking area is hardpack and sand. They do have monthly rates and I look at what I have on file for prices. Hold on for a minute...

Well the DW has the current rates and she is school clothes shopping with the DGS. My old prices were from about $250 to $575 a week. I seem to remember something like starting at $300 now. There are four price levels for sites and NONE of them are undesirable. There is a Rec. Cent. with big screen TVs for your use or rental. Florence is less than forty miles away, Newport is another half hour and are not to bad a drive. The Light house above the bay is a great museum now, there is an oyster packing plant in town as well as an oyster farm in the mouth of the bay. It is a great point for travel for 50 miles either side of the coast.

Scope all those mentioned here online and you'll find something for all you needs.

I forgot to mention that at the public dock on the Alsea River at Waldport the crabbing does not require a license. You can rent rings and buy bait at the head of the pier as well as have your catch cooked and cleaned, if you want they will also put your catch in a bag with ice to take home.

On our only visit to the Oregon coast, we stayed at the South Beach State Park near Newport. There was plenty of grass and trees in the campground. The only small problem I noted was that for one of the largest campgrounds we've ever stayed in, there was only one dump station. Still, we would definitely go back there and have no hesitation in recommending it. Lots of trails for walking with the dog, some that lead down to the beach.
