Outer Banks or Virginia Beach?

My wife and I are planning on getting away for a week or so after Labor Day, and were thinking either Virginia Beach or the Outer Banks. We are just looking for some relaxing time along the ocean, preferably not a place that is too busy, that is why we chose to travel after Labor Day. We will be traveling from NY. Any suggestions either way on each, and also campgrounds?
  • I live in Va and have been to Va Bch exactly once. I go to the OBX a minimum of twice each year.
  • We stayed at Camp Hatteras CG I believe that it is in Waves NC. Open level sites and you can reserve one right on the ocean side behind the dunes or across the street on the bay side for red sunsets. We did the ocean side with just a few steps to the sand. Great Place and FHU as well. restaurants, site seeing etc.

    Happy Trails
  • I would try Ocean Waves at Rodanthe if quiet is what you are looking for. The KOA and Camp Hatteras are options too but O. Waves tends to be a little more laid back. The tidewater area is always busy.
  • I would rather stay away from the Outer Banks. First there is no place called the Outer Banks on any Map in the world. Second, a lot of ships sank on the outer banks. LOL Fighters are the sound of FREEDOM! There are a lot of places to RV in the Norfolk area that are quiet.
  • I currently live in Virginia Beach and if it's relaxation on the beach you're looking for go to the Outer Banks. Even after labor day the place is still pretty busy with the Neptune Festival, and the Oceana Airshow is the 18th through the 20th of Sep. Sorry don't have any experience with the campgrounds down there though.
  • I'd go for Outer Banks. Virginia Beach can be a bit noisy if the fighter jets are flying.
