Outer Banks

Recommendations on campgrounds on the Outer Banks of NC. We want to go in mid September. We want full hookups. Suggestions?
  • Wife and I stayed at the koa this past November. Enjoyed it. We had a backin against the sandunes. We could hear the waves from inside our camper. It's a large park and I can imagine it would be packed Memorial Day thru September. We have always loved the entire outer banks in general. Very relaxing.
  • We stayed at Camp Hatteras last summer and fell on love with the place. The boys were disappointed when they found out that we were not able to return this year
  • Several threads here about OBX. Most have stayed at either the KOA, Camp Hatteras or Ocean Waves. The KOA is ocean side beach camping, although there isn't a view of the ocean from the campground because of the dunes.

Camp Hatteras has sites on the ocean side and on the Pamlico Sound side. The sound side has water view/front sites.
  • We are also staying at CampHatteras the middle of July. There are 3 families in 3 different RVs. We all have older kids - 11 to 15.

I know that Captain George's in Nags Head has an abundance of seafood - it's all you can eat and with 6 pre-teens and teens, we will be be having at least one dinner out there.
