Palo Dura Canyon

If you have the opportunity, I would recommend the show "Texas" at the Palo Duro Amphitheatre.

Dinner at Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse in Amarillo is worthwhile. Be sure and wear a tie :)

I agree that the Panhandle/Plains Museum is well worth the time. The entire town of Canyon is very nice and is a college town but it is dry. In Amarillo is Siezmore's RV Land and RV museum. That is also worth a stop. Jack and his son took us on a tour of the new section and their plans are fantastic. No Charge and a good RV store too. They have the converted bus from the movie RV and the first ever Itasca.

There is a RV park on the east side of the highway and north side of Palo Duro Cyn Rd, very close to the hwy but lower and pretty quiet. That time of year you will have pleanty of elbow room and full hookup.

The KOA is well-run and close to the Big Texan Steak Ranch. We had to "redeploy" there this past spring break when a wildfire started in Palo Duro and we had to evacuate. The only negative is that the KOA is at the end of the airport runway and across the highway from busy train tracks. So when the a/c is not running, you have a lot of noise from the railroad, airport, and highway.

Also prefer Mesquite campground, it is the most scenic. You will cross several low water crossings, so keep an eye out on the weather. Park staff will also keep you informed. We did have cell phone service on last trip. Have fun, KB

A top ten campground, always go out of our way to stay there when going cross country.

Prefer it to Grand Canyon go figure.

We love this place. Camp anywhere in the canyon for a wonderful experience.

When we went we stayed at the Mesquite campground. What we were told is it is not as convenient to the show they have at night but it is not as noisy because of this.

We stayed at the Mesquite campground, but the others looked good also. Just check your brakes well before starting down. Some of the views from the cab of a Class A on the way down will be impressive. And in a big fifth-wheel pushing you down makes an impression also. Couple of hairpin curves.
