Palo Dura RV Park

Will be going to Palo Dura Canyon in a couple of weeks and thinking of staying at the PD RV park. Anyone ever stayed there and have any remarks for me. We will not be able to stay in PD State Park because the couple traveling with us require full hook ups because of small holding tanks on their TT.

  • The RV park you are talking about is right off the interstate near the road that goes into Canyon TX. Not an appealing place. Stay in the state park, it's worth the extra effort. The bathhouses are in good condition. Check out my signature photolink. I have an entire album of about 100 pics of Palo Duro Canyon SP.
  • We camped at Palo Duro State Park a few days ago. There are 3 RV campgrounds in the canyon - Sagebrush, Hackberry and Mesquite. Hackberry is 30amp and water but I think it was closed. Sagebrush and Mesquite are 30/50 amp and water. None have sewer connections. We camped at Mesquite which at the end of the canyon and the most remote. Beautiful area / great hiking. There are also many primitive tent sites along the main road in the park.
Only private CGs have full hookups in the area, and are not in the State Park or the Canyon, but are closeby. Palo Duro RV park is about 15 miles away. There is also one closer with zip lines and horseback rides, but I didn't catch the name of it. Don't know about hookups there.
Where ever you stay try to get down in the canyon for sunsets or sunrises if possible - very impressive!
  • :h From the state park website, it appears they do NOT have Full Hookups:
They do have Campsites with Water and Electric (30/50-amp)
Camping Fees Palo Duro Canyon State Park
    But they do have:
    Restrooms nearby
    Showers nearby

I'd opt for the state park campsites as well, small holding tanks or not. Our previous TT only had 14 gal. grey tank. I'd have gone the state park campsites anytime.
  • Palo Dura Canyon State Park RV sites (in the canyon) have full hookups, including 50 amp power in two of the campground areas.
I would definitely opt for staying in the park.
