Park in AL

Gunter Hill COE campground in Montgomery, AL. One loop has huge sites, both pull thru and back ins with full hook ups. Some of the sites are even rooftop satellite friendly. And with an Access Pass, the price is only $11.

We stayed at Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, AL. It was a beautiful park.

If you leave Gulf Shores and don't want to travel far the first day, Sherling Lake, previously mentioned would be a great stop. If you want to travel about 3/4 of the way on day one River Country in Gadsden would be a great stop. We've made the North Georgia to Foley, AL trip a couple of times and those were our stops.

If you make it to north east Alabama, our crown jewel state park is Desoto State park. It is located in the Ft. Payne area, and is beautiful. It has Desoto Falls and The Little River Canyon. All sites have FHU and cable.

Alabama has some great COE parks, as well as lot of other public campgrounds.

Hardridge Creek COE is just south of Eufala.

Nearby is White Oak Creek COE.

Just north of Eufala is Bluff Creek COE.

You can locate them all at The Ultimate US Public Campground Project. We find it a very helpful resource.

There is a great park south of Atlanta on I-85 called Auburn RV Park www.auburnrv.com really friendly people.

If you coming up north on 65, Oak Mountain State Park off of Highway 119 is beautiful. Just south of Birmingham. If you come up west on Hwy 280 Wind Creek State Park is half between Auburn and Birmingham, another beautiful park. My. Cheaha Park is also nice, never camped here but visit often as we live in its shadow, this is off I 20 east. We camp at Oak Mtn and Wind Creek several times a year. Check out Alaparks.com for more info. One other place we enjoy is a federal park, Coleman Lake, located in the Talladega National Forest, opens back up in March, $12 a night Welcome to Alabama.

We have stayed at River Country, very nice an clean.. U can get sites right on the river.
Now u have several choices plan ur route.

I vote with Katfish for Sterling City C/G..in Greenville,Ala...exit 130 off I-65...what a great park..if you decide to go there, ask for site #1....we were going to Biloxi from Ct and had stayed in Tn, gonna stay at this next c/g I will mention but it was just too close, so kept going, then had hard time finding a spot til Greenville...the c/g was so nice,planned trip back to Nashville with this as one of our stops
another nice place is River Country in Gadsdin ,Ala......
Won't be sorry with either c/g..take it from a northern boy ,who loves the south

Tannehill State Historical Park is 20 miles west of B'ham on I59/20. Rustic campground with about 300 sites. Lots of Civil War stuff.
