I lived in Pascagoula MS for 30+ years, until I was Katrina'ed out.
I moved to Pensacola FL, so I am able to comment on both areas
in the question.
Biloxi/Gulfport is a good camping area, but the gulf is
muddy due to offshore islands blocking the surf. It is a less
desirable camping area than are Pensacola FL/Gulf Shores AL.
My favorite campground in Mississippi is in Bay St Louis, Hollywood Casino.
Gambling is not required, the campground is very pretty, and the
buffet is excellent. Get a discount coupon if you are camping there....ask the clerks. Drive east to or toward Biloxi and see
the vacant lots where beautiful homes stood prior to Katrina,
along the gulf.
In the Biloxi area, all the casinos have good buffet meals.
Fort Pickens is on an island offshore from Pensacola. I 10
into Pensacola, I 110 south to its end which is U S 98, 98 across
a 3 mile bridge (watch fuel) to a sign in Gulf Breeze FL showing
the beach to the south/right. Cross a $1 toll bridge, come to
a sign showing Fort Pickins to the right........7 miles, nothing
but sand...........take in what you need or a long drive back
across the $1 bridge for groceries.
Fun Public pier on the island with Fort Pickens, and the
fort west of the campground is a fun tour)
In the area, Naval Museum, several GOOD restaurants on the
island with Fort Pickens (Flounder House,),
back in Pensacola McGuires, tourist areas downtown
(stop at tourist place near north foot of 3 mile bridge for
information). About 20 miles West is Gulf Shores.......great
camping, and restaurants. Beautiful drive down the beach to
Gulf Shores........FloraBama lounge/restaurant on beach at
state line, Oyster House near beach in Gulf Shores on U S 59)
ASk for more information, and I'll try........I have camped in
most of the campgrounds in these areasl
