Pine Mountain RV Park, Pigeon Forge, TN

We made reservations for December. Although we have camped in this area many times, but never this late in the year or at this park... Being from Ohio, I am sure hoping for a warm December! My wife has always wanted to go to to Pigeon Forge / Gatlenburg around Christmas time...

  • The snow usually stays at higher elevations up around Clingmans Dome and New Found Gap. I have been up to Pieogn forge in October and November and it is great. Remember, I said the snow usally stays at the higher elevations, no guarantees.
  • We haven't camped in the Pigeon Forge area yet, but have stayed in cabins many times. We surprised my wife with a birthday trip down there a few years ago the first week of December. The weather was nice, but got chilly at night. They had a nice parade in Gatlinburg one night.
  • Wow thanks for all of the replies... Colder temperatures I can handle, but I will not pull the 5th Wheel on snow or ice covered roads... When we head to Florida in February to visit the kids & grandchildren, I've already had to stay a day in a roadside rest along I75, because of running into snow covered roads from an un-announced storm... LOL

    Thanks again...

  • We always camp here during Christmas. Last year was on the warm side. You could walk around with a light jacket. That being said we have camped there with 7 inches of snow with lows in the 20's and highs in low 40's.

It can be all over the place in temps. The campground is great. The bathhouse is very nice, laundry room and of course the use of the indoor pool across the street at the hotel.

So much to do during December You will have a great time. Maybe we will cross paths.

  • We usually go down for Thanksgiving week. DH (yes, I said DH) lies to do the Black Friday thing there.

We have always had pretty good luck during the last 10 years and the weather has been OK. Not great, sometimes, but usually in the 50s during the day and 30s at night. Just make sure and unhook your water hose at night if it's going to get below freezing.

That being said, that should be a great time to go since the T'giving rush will be over and the Christmas rush will not be on yet. Traffic should be doable, but on the weekends, no matter what time of year, it will be bad.

Be sure and take bathing suits. After exploring, shopping and sight-seeing all day, the hot tub at the hotel sure does feel good.
  • Well I can't guarantee you a warm December, but I can guarantee that you'll love Pine Mt. You'll also have privileges at the hotel across the street. As Duck said, the river sites are the best if you can get one. Pine Mt is close to all the activities of Pigeon Forge, but far enough away that you don't hear all the traffic of the main drag.
  • We are in a similar boat but for the west coast. Want to visit Reno in December. If el nino pans out we'll both be buried in snow. Pine Mountain is a very nice park.
  • We have stayed there many times. Try to get a site on the stream.
