We also just got back from PL. It is a great place. the sites in the beach area are HUGE. The inland sites are pretty tight. And in fact. It is cooler in the beach sites, as you get the ocean breeze. Back in the trees, the breeze is blocked.
The pool, and splash zone is not that far from most of the beach sites. And yes there are golf carts. However PL security patrol keeps them well in check. They are not allowed to use them between 11PM, and 7AM. They WILL take them away from you. Also. You can't bring your own. And unlike the other CGS. Only 3 of PL roads go all the way to 17, so there is actually not much Golf cart traffic off the main drag. 4 sites off the beach, you would hardly know there is a golf cart cruise in.
We have stayed at ALL the MB privately owned CGs, and have found PL to be the most quiet, and best patrolled.
And IF you need to go to the grocery store. Turn right out of the CG entrance, and Food Lion is just up the street. Much easier to get to than Wal Mart. Going left and past the light at 544 will take you to a huge water slide, and many restaurants.
We take our bikes to get around in the CG. But IF you do want to rent a golf Cart. They are like $50 per day. And fun to use to explore the park.
Have a blast.
BTW. A big umbrella is a must have for sitting on the beach. The limit in 9 foot. EZup tents are no longer allowed on the beach. Take your umbrella out early to get a good spot. Leave it there all day, and no one will bother it.
