Planning Mt. Hood Trip Need Input

Try Toll Bridge Park in the upper Hood River Valley on Hwy 35. Toll Bridge is maybe 10 miles from MT Meadows,look at a map. There are several campgrounds on Hwy 26 that should but you close also. Toll Bridge is a Hood River County Park and I think it has a website.

Toll Bridge was a great choice for us for staying near Mt Hood.

Living in Salem, I haven't had any desire to camp near Mt Hood. The NF campgrounds are pretty busy because it's so close to Portland. Most of the NF campgrounds have sites that are too short for your rig.Interactive map

Mt Hood is beautiful. Timberline Lodge is a must see. The Columbia River Gorge is also a must see.

If I were camping near Mt. Hood, I'd consider boondocking. You should be able to find a good spot for dispersed camping not too far from Government Camp or one of the ski areas. I've done a lot of skiing, hiking, and mountain biking in the area, but no camping.

Using "hood" netted me 24 hits 7 of which were from this post and several of the others not even related to Mt. Hood. Surely you folks have more than this.

One problem with most of the campgrounds in the area is that they are close to the highway -- noisy. We are not RV park lovers, but we have found Mt. Hood Village to be much quieter, especially if your site is away from the road.

And the hiking around Mt. Hood is great -- don't miss Tamanawas Falls, on the east side of the mountain.

Mt Hood Village is good, full hook ups but on the expensive side. There is a Forest service campgound closer to MT Hood Lodge but no hook ups, stayed at years ago and can't remember the name.

We have also stayed there many times and always enjoyable. Very close to Mt Hood.
