Point Lookout State Park - St Mary's, MD - Excellent

Went here this past weekend and enjoyed it thoroughly! We were greeted by big horse flies when we arrived but didn't really bother us and seemed to disappear later in the day. We stayed on the Green Point Loop which is the only loop on the water. Our site 89 didn't have water access but in my opinion was the nicest with a view. Sites 99, 100 and 104 had water access and is where I'll be next time I go.

  • are the small bungee cords the only thing holding the coolers in/down when tipping the canoe? you don't need to do anything with the handles?
    is that 1 1/2 or 2" PVC?

I agree, more info! Is that a canoe and the coolers on the side work like outriggers, keep it from tipping. We have a canoe and I have outriggers for it. Wonderful invention there! Never tipped the canoe and can actually stand up and fish it's so stable with the outriggers all the way down in the water.

Just wondering if that's how your set-up works there?

I've posted this rig before... I got the idea from a video "best canoe outrigger." I tried to buy it from this new company but they couldn't accommodate my request so I decided to build one. They use aluminum.. I substituted it with pvc. It's awesome as an outrigger.. plenty of beverage storage, fish storage, rod holders, can stand in canoe or from platform. Wont tip...

Here are a few more pics...

Um ... NO! Sorry there! Now that you just told everybody which sites were the best, everyone will be trying to get them. Sorry guy, you just shot yourself in the foot! :S

whew... glad you liked it, we stayed there over 4th of July a couple years back and I hated it. Hot and humid, flies, mosquitoes and every other imaginable flying insect were all over the place. Literally ticks dropped out of the dune grass and were on us, our clothes and our dogs. The dune grass in our loop made it impossible to see the water and blocked the breeze, making it feel hotter and more nasty that it really was.

I won't likely ever go back, though I do love St Mary's... beautiful country out there.

Lol.. Sorry you had a miserable time. I don't think I'd ever go in the middle summer either. I think I'd pick and choose my destinations more carefully based on the conditions/seasons.
