We will be staying in the Portland area on June 22 and am looking for a big rig rv park somewhere in the southern portion of Portland...specifically around Happy Valley.I will check with rvparkreviews.com and see if I can find anything there.Any and all recommendations will be greatly appreciated.Ron

Portland Fairview and Sandy River Front both on the east side are decent. We spent winter 2013 in Sandy River and it was pretty decent. Either one is maybe 20 minutes drive from Happy Valley.

I drive by Pheasant Ridge south of Portland all the time - looks nice but haven't stayed there. Worth a look - it's off of I-5 and south of 205 so you should be able to jump on the 205 to Happy Valley.

Pheasant Ridge is actually in Wilsonville. It is a lovely park, we stayed numerous times when we had children living in Portland. Quiet, very close to major shopping, you could walk, we didn't. There have been complaints that they are very strict with their rules...where to walk the dog, night noise, parking...I found this to be wonderful. I could easily follow the dog regs, nights were nice and quiet, and there was plenty of parking. If you stay there, and if you have time, one day exit to the right, keep right on the back roads, and you will come to one of the few small ferries left in the USA. (operated by the State as a historical landmark). Or you can exit right then go left at the fork and take back roads all the way to Portland. A beautiful half day drive. Anyway, it was a nice park.

One more thing about Wilsonville. Across the freeway is the Wilsonville/Portland Camping World. The people there are fantastic. We stopped by once with an RV emergency at 4:30pm as they were cleaning the shop, the jack buzzer and light were on, they stayed open late, got us back on the road, shared their coffee with us...I can't thank them enough.Anyway, enjoy your trip.

Pleasant Ridge looks good as we will be heading south on I5 the following day.We will be coming down from Olympic Nat Prk and the DW wants to stop and visit a quilt store in Happy Valley. The next day we'll be heading south on I5 down to Hwy 34 and head over to the coast to Newport.The last time we came down this way, we took 22 in Salem and went over to 18 to Lincoln City... don't want to do the Salem thing again.Thanks again..Ron

You're right. I never paid that much attention to the number. I always just take the 34 exit off I-5 and follow the signs to Newport. Same mess though. IMO it's a toss up.

Uhhhh. 34 doesn't go to Newport...it goes to Waldport and it doesn't go through Lincoln City.

I'm really confused here.

We will probably stick with our standard way of taking I-5 to the 34 and 34 to the 20. Does anyone know if the construction on the 20 between Phillomath and Toledo is finished yet? Been going on for years.

Pleasant Ridge sounds really nice...I'm pretty sure we'll stay there.

x2 on Champoeg SP. Beautiful place, some very nice large FHU sites, some with reasonable privacy too.

We take the route from Keizer to Lincoln city all the time. IMO it' way better than the route from I-5 thru Cornvalley/Philomath. That can get slow if you hit it at the wrong time. From Portland head south till you get to the 99E exit, follow that to Marion ST. Then turn right and head over the bridge. When you hit Marion St you are at the bridge. Going this was is way, way easier than the 22/Mission route.

I've done both and both take the same time. 34 will put you in Newport. Only draw back it that you still have to go thru Lincoln City to get to Newport. During the week or day time it's not so bad. Around 5:00 on Friday night it sucks.

Even when we stay at South Beach St park we still go thru Lincoln City.

It is the exit after Kaiser. 260A I believe. It points you toward Dallas. 55 or 45 for most of the way. Then it drops to 30 till the bridge. Be sure to be in the middle lane for the right onto the Marion St bridge.

The RV park in Champoeg (pronounced sham-POO-ee) State Park is really nice, quiet and secluded. Not too far from I-5

All sites have electric and water. A few have sewer, but there is a dump station.

22/18 is one of the easiest routs to the coast. Did you go down 5 to 22 or take Salem Parkway? The parkway is quite easy. 22 thru town can be a pain. But that is how we have to go east now.
