One experience you can have out in Arizona that is rare in New York is boondocking all alone out in the great wide open.
As others have mentioned there is lots of great camping in the west.
Even a good bit in mountains near the major cities - where you can escape the summer heat by going to higher elevations.
And you should just leave the snow shovel to whomever buys your house. You definitely won't need it.
