Presque Isle, PA

Anyone familiar with Presque Isle SP, PA? What's it like mid July? We'll be leaving the Niagara Falls area and heading to Geneva SP, OH and thinking about touring Presque Isle for the day. Any heads up on the crowd volume? Is it a tourist trap and expensive? And is it worth the stop? Or should we bypass it and go on to Geneva SP? And any opinions on Geneva SP?
  • If you mean the Presque Isle at Erie PA, I can't help you. I couldn't help you anyway. The only time I was there not on a lake ship or a keel sloop, we parked the coach at the yacht club.

But... What I wanted to tell you was Don't Miss the Museum.

    Matt
  • Presque Isle should be a definite stop. No entry fee, close to the interstate, very little traffic. Very beautiful with beaches and sunsets and good simple hiking. Depending on weekends sometimes there are special events that are really fun. Stop for an hour or a couple of days either way you cant go wrong.
  • Presque Isle... It is free to get into - there is no camping in the park. There are a bunch of really nice beaches and hiking trails, as well as a paved walking/bike trail. It is not a tourist trap and it is never so busy that it is uncomfortable. There's not much to spend money on unless you want to rent a canoe, a bike, or a Segway.

    We think it's beautiful.

X2 definitely - we like to bike on the trails there. Also the park offers a boat ride with v.g. commentary. I think it was free, but that was about 3 years ago. You have to book it ahead of time. There is a lot of history in the park and a guided hike might interest you.
  • Thanks so much for the info. We will have to find a campground nearby and do a full day of exploring and dining along with taking in some vistas of the lake.

    Thanks again.
