Quartzite Boondocking

While some of the 14 Day BLM sites are a bit crowded now, after the RV show ends at the end of January, they should clear out quickly. I'll be in the Dome Rock area with a group of fiberglass trailer owners for a week starting on the 3rd...

So are the places where temporary camping is allowed marked, designated? Or do you just pull off the road wherever you choose and set up camp? Ive been eye balling it a lot here lately from Gmaps and it looks like a lot of vacant land surrounding the place for miles in every direction. Im planning a trip out that way too sometime just to see what its like.

There are free 14 day areas such as Dome Rock or Hi Jolly. For $40.00 for 14 days or $180.00 for 6 months there are Long Term Camping areas that provide dumpsters and a dump station; some have a fresh water source.

I just left Quartzsite a few days ago. I came in on I-10, took the 95 turn off and went away from "town", about 1/2 mile you will find two BLM buildings for check in. The hosts were very informative. The actual dump station is approx. 1-2 miles down 95 on the left, you can't miss them. There are RVs of every type and size, lots of ATVs running around the streets and camp areas. I cant wait for next year, yooohooo, here I come. JH :)

Yeah, I used to drive up it, leave my 'hang driver' (my DW)to drive my car back down, and hang glide down. Sometimes stayed up for hours. I once went all the way to San Jacinto. It is an awesome view.

Would that be North out of town on the 95, or South? I'm guessing South because of 'down' but want to be sure.

Wonder about next year.BLM having big meeting in Q. They want to restrict off road free campin . Be interesting to hear how that comes about. Changing 14 days to 72 hours and close off more roads. Way to go BLM.

There were not a lot of folks north of town, north of Hi Jolly on Plomosa Road. No water, no dumps, be self contained and topped off before you get there. I did 3 days there, it was fun and quiet, no quads, no dust, just nice campers that were respectful of others. This was 2 weeks ago.
