Recommendations for Ocala National Forest?

In a Georgia RV park today and heading for a Florida RV park tomorrow. We would like to spend some time in Ocala National Forest about a week from now.

Would anyone be willing to share some favorite spots in Ocala?
  • I'd side track a little east and go to Osceola National Forest over Ocala. There's one full hook up campground, about twenty sites and there's another about twenty sites that are water only, the drawback is they don't take reservations, there are also three or four small primitive campgrounds. Most of the forest service roads are hard packed.
  • We stayed at Alexander Springs recreation area last year. Loved it there. The sites are large. We went snorkeling and hiking there, and drove to Blue springs for a day trip. I highly recommend a stop at Barberville roadside yard art emporium. Statues, art, furniture, decorations, fresh produce, fresh boiled peanuts, much much more. We usually don’t stop at places like that, but I am glad we did. The kids loved it, too. We also stopped at silver springs and took the glass bottom boat tour, a short hike and ice cream. Have fun!

Alexander Springs and Juniper Springs are nice too but no hookups.

    Verizon is spotty but works.

Sending from Salt Springs Recreation Area now.
  • If you think about boondocking in the ONF itself, be aware that the roads have long tracks of what we call 'sugar sand' and deep sugar sand too. I'd think hard about taking an RV down those roads without a recon trip first and 4WD.

    Silver River State Park

My bad Silver River State Park is now Silver Springs State Park.
