Unfortunately you picked a desirable, highly rated campground in one of the nicest areas in Maine. Summer is their peak and only season. I'm sure they had a long list of people they had to turn away.
I also wonder why you went back to MD. There were other campgrounds in Kennebunkport that you could try. I also know of a couple of good campgrounds near Portsmouth that may have had room. Portsmouth is 45 minutes from Kennebunkport.
