Reno Area RV Parks?

Planning a stop in the Reno/Tahoe area for a couple of nights; Where to stay? Also, what to see in Reno/Tahoe/Carson city area (besides casinos...?
  • Gold's Ranch Casino & RV. Exit #2, I-80. 877-714-6789, Verdi, NV. We stayed there a week last September. Very clean, helpful staff, dog-friendly, good-sized spaces, separated from the casino, convenient to Reno. We liked it. Road noise from the freeway was not obtrusive. We have family in Reno so when we return we'll stay at Gold's
  • We like Shamrock RV park on Parr Blvd. It's easy on and off the freeway and close to the Bonanza Casino -- away from the noise. :) Last time there, it was clean and reasonably priced.
  • We stay at the Grand Sierra. Nice RV park with full use of the pool which has a sandy beach and atmosphere. There's a go cart track and some other things for the younger set if you are traveling with them.

Virginia City is a worthwhile trip. Take the train ride. If you've never been to Lake Tahoe, that too is a must see. You can drive around the entire lake and stop at many places along the shore. We dropped a penny in the water and took a picture of it at least 30 feet down. The water is that clear. If you do go into South Lake Tahoe, stop at a Subway/MickyDs/whatever your thing is and get it to go. Take the ski lift at Heavenly Valley. It'll take you half way up the mountain and let you off. Have a leisurely lunch overlooking the beautiful lake, then get back on the lift and go all the way to the top. You overlook Nevada and California for miles. If you like to hike, all the ski trails are groomed for easy hiking at the top. There's also a lodge there. Lots more to do in the Tahoe area than there is in Reno.....Dennis
  • You didn't mention Tahoe. Park the RV and the drive from Reno to Incline Village, NV is around an hour. Great view of the lake from a pull-out about 5-10 miles before you get into Incline. Even if you make the round trip in half a day, it's worth it if you haven't been to Lake Tahoe.

Once at Lake level, the traffic will vary greatly depending on the time of the year but if you have a day, there are good options.

Also, nice Cabellas in West Reno. :)
  • Sparks Marina X2. There is a great Auto Museum, a trip to Virginia City would be fun if you have the time. Carson City has a great Train Museum & also a good Museum near the capital. Early August the RV parks are full with Hot August Nights, when are you traveling? Dick

Can certainly recommend Sparks Marina park - spent a week there last year visiting family. VERY nice - FHU - pool, rec center, enclosed dog walks, etc. Have also stayed at Bordertown park - that was just an overnight stop, but again, thought it was a nice park. As far as what to see, check out Virginia City - old silver mining town - covered sidewalks and everything! Would NOT recommend driving rig up to it - long steep hill! Depending on how much time you have, head east on Hwy 50 - "Lonliest Road". Some nice places to see within maybe 2 hour drive from Reno. ST

    X1 on Sparks Marina Park
