Reserve America transaction fee?

I just made a reservation at Long Key SP and there was a $6.70 transaction fee added. I don't believe I ever saw that before . I made a reservation at Stephen Foster 6/24 and there is no transaction fee on that one. Is this something new? Thanks

    Never seen a transaction fee for Florida State Parks. May be something new, after all the pols always need more money.

    Edit:
    I found it, new fee granted by the state;

    "Reservation Fees

    Visitors will pay a non-refundable $6.70 reservation fee (per reservation, not per night) when making a reservation online or by using the call center. This fee is collected at the time of reservation."

    I wonder if this took effect July 1? I booked Oscar Scherer on June 30, no fee. (And as a new somewhat old Florida resident, it was a bargain at 50%.)

    Colorado had a $10 online res fee last time I booked (2013).
  • I think the most important question has been missed by everyone.

    How were you lucky enough to get a reservation at Long Key SP? :)

    And it doesn't matter if you're staying for two weeks or just one night - It's $6.50.

    Good grief!

    I bet they keep the $6.70 even if you cancel later.
    And a new reservation for the same spot same day. Will be another $6.70 for them. :)

    RA keeps $17 when you cancel OR change dates, no matter how far in advance.
    Surely they will keep the new fee too.

    Totally unfair and too high.
  • At least they were smart enough to not call it a tax. :)

  • Reservation fee varies depending on the contract with the campground owner. Some times it is per transaction and sometimes it is per night. SC SP the fee is $1.50 per night and is even applied if you just walk up and get a site for one night.
