Like many, I'm still very much working and not retired, and as such, trying to minimize the point A to point B time spent on the road. Example: last month I traveled to the Rolex 24 at Daytona from home which is in the NYC metro area. I did have a one-night reservation at a Florida State Park to dewinterize; check-in time 3pm the following day. We packed up the morning of departure, and hit the road about 12:30pm. Drove 10 hours into South Carolina, at which point we stopped for the night at the Welcome Center there. Having a small 24' Class C, if the parking space backs up to grass, I can back into a regular passenger car stall and take up no more space than a shortbed crew cab pick-up. Which is what I did. Got my 6 hours of sleep and hit I-95 south again in the 5am hour. The trip home was similar, making it to the North Carolina Welcome Center the following Sunday night, then home on Monday. I have also done upwards of 1000 miles a day, 16-17 hours of driving, basically 6 or 7am to 10 or 11pm. Campground offices are definitely not open that late.
I've also stayed at Walmarts frequently for 6 hour power naps too. Never done a truck stop, but wouldn't hesitate to. How I use my RV really doesn't work with the private campground hours of operation, offered amenities and business model. If we are going to stay anywhere, we enjoy federal and state park land much, much more.
