River Valley Campground in Cherokee, NC

We've decided to take a quick trip to Cherokee. Called River Valley and since last minute couldn't get reservations but was assured they would have availability for full hook up when we get there. Have any of you stayed there or suggestions for other campgrounds? Really wanting to see "Unto these Hills". Thank you for your help.
  • Based on your suggestions, we camped at Happy Holiday and enjoyed our stay.
We backed right up to a stream and the sound was wonderful. We didn't use the bath house or pool, but all the property seemed well maintained. WiFi was slow or almost nonexistent, and we didn't have service on our phones (TMobile). I'm glad you suggested Happy Holiday. Although we didn't really tour other campgrounds, I think Happy Holiday is one of the best. The location is convenient. Thank you for helping us find a good campground!
  • We stayed at River Valley Campground last September. We reserved early enough to get a riverside site at the end of the road (at the access to the seasonal sites). It was full hookup, and you must have a sewer donut or a hose that fits tightly into the sewer connection. You can purchase the donut if you need but don't have one.

Our site was just adequate for the size of our camper (25-1/2 ft), but we were able to park the trailer and truck, along with 2 large motorcycles on the site. It was lovely being right next to the river. Neighbors were close but friendly. The bathhouse was fine but not great. Friendly management. If you get one of the sites at the entrance to the campground you probably will not have any trees. If you can get any of the riverside sites you will enjoy it. The turn at the end of the campground is tight, so check it out before you need to actually make the turn. We would go back again.

We liked Happy Holiday Village Campground.

    Agree. Nicest CG around Cherokee
  • If you are set on staying in Cherokee then try the KOA. If not there try going north on 19 and find a lot of choices in Maggie Valley.
