Route suggestions Charleston, WV to Lancaster, OH
I'm towing a 46' DRV Houston (13'7" height) from Raleigh NC to the Jayco service center in Middlebury, IN next week. Google maps takes me via I-77 thru Charleston WV then via US-33 at Ravenswood. Then US-33 up to Lancaster OH where I'm overnighting at the Loves. The Good Sam's planner takes me up I-77 all the way to Parkersburg, then west across US-50 to get to US-33 at Athens, OH. That adds over 30 miles.
Has anyone traveled either of these routes? I don't see any showstoppers going the shorter way, but don't want to get caught in a corner towing this big rig.
Thanks!
while I have taken both the I-77 to I-70 and the I-77 to US 33 routes often, I've never attempted to do so towing a rig that big. The only issue with US 33 that sticks out in my mind is at the Ohio River crossing, where the route takes a couple tight turns. Almost all of that route is 4-lane divided, but there are a couple stretches of 2-lane, which by themselves shouldn't be problems. If there's anyone with a better feel for that Ohio crossing, please speak up. The US 33 route is my preferred one, I just have never dragged that big of a rig.
