This is where we stayed. We prefer to be closer to whatever attraction we're visiting to lessen drive around time. Nice little CG.
Although I'm sure the other campgrounds previously mentioned are of excellent quality, there is a fine campground located in Fayetteville. Rifrafters Campground, privately owned, is located just 4/10 of a mile off I-19 at the Laurel Creek Rd. Exit, a left turn when coming from the south. We stay here when attending the Bridge Day Festival each year in October. Coming from the south, you'll first pass the exits for downtown Fayetteville and many shopping plazas, and still be situated less than 2 miles south of the New River Gorge Bridge. CG has several paved campsites with W/E hook-ups, one or two with sewer. Bathroom/Shower house is centrally located and very clean! Two dump stations are available. For more information:

- sdianel_-acct_cExplorerif you travel from the south, from I-81 you will take I-77 then I-64 to US19. I-77 has mountains and tunnels but just take it slow and you'll be fine. Beautiful drive. US19 doesn't have any steep grades. The bridge is on this highway. There are 2 options for camping both about 20 miles north of the bridge: Battle Run Campground a Corps of Engineers campground on Summersville Lake in Summersville WV. Water and electric with dump station. Most reasonably priced option. www.recreation.gov (get the seniors pass for discounts if you qualify). Another option at the same exit is Summersville Lake Retreat. Full hookups. Walmart and USave grocery nearby.
- Rangerman40ExplorerTips for towing in the mountains...... Bring enough truck for the job. Aside from that it's fairly easy. I was just through there about a month ago, and I don't recall anything too crazy.
