RV park near Chicago

Hi All, I am looking for a recommendation of a good CG near Chicago, preferably west or soutwest of downtown, like near I-80. Need access to commuter train for a couple of days of sight seeing downtown. Any recommendations or past experiences to share? Thanks!

Big Rock Forest Preserve campground was recently upgraded and is supposed to be very nice - have not been there myself.

It is 15 miles from Elburn where you can catch a Metra train.

Nice campground, water and electric. You need a long water hose. Huge sites.
  • There are 2 around the area that may be what you are looking for. There is a Jellystone in Millbrook IL. And there is Sycamore RV resort in Sycamore IL. I know there are a couple more out that way, but I forget what they are.
  • Fwiw, there is a koa south on 57 in Kankakee, as well as a state park. Metra station about 45 minutes north of there in University Park, fairly close to 57.
  • found this on an old post: "Your best bet may be Indiana Dunes State Park just across the IN border and along Lake Michigan. The South Shore Rail Line has a stop just outside the park with about an hour commute. Trains leave fairly early and run late."
Also Hollywood Casino in Joliet has an RV Park (no sewer hookups).
