RV Park Near San Francisco Public Transportation

Hi. We'd like to visit San Francisco in our RV. We're looking for a nice place to stay near SF that has nearby public transportation (BART, bus, ferry) to get into SF.

We did get some info from the San Francisco visitors center:
San Francisco RV Resort http://www.sanfranciscorvresort.com/
Novato RV Park http://novatorvpark.com/
San Francisco RV Park http://sanfranciscorvpark.com/
Pillar Point RV Park http://newradio.com/pillarpointrvpark
Marin RV Park http://www.marinrvpark.com/campground/index.php

Any comments on any of these?

Thanks,
John

  • We've stayed at a number of the SF area parks. Hands down the only one I would revisit is Marin Park. We easily walked to the Larkspur Ferry landing and used it exclusively to get to SF after our first drive by car over the Golden Gate. When we were there, they gave 2 sites to the larger rigs, if space was available.
  • Wow, thanks for everyone's great input. Hadn't thought of the fairgrounds idea. We used to live in Denver, and many people would stay at the Jefferson County fairgrounds.

Great to have input from other folks who've been there!
  • You really could stay anywhere and just drive your vehicle to the Larkspur Ferry landing. It takes you across the bay into the heard of San Francisco. We arranged for a small van tour to meet us there and it was a very enjoyable way to see the city. We stayed that time in Santa Rosa at the fairgrounds - very cheap because they accept many discounts. Napa Valley Expo is also a good place to stay.
  • You might want to check the many fairgrounds in the Bay Area. Usually cheaper and near public transportation.
  • Just about any place in the SF bay area is going to cost a few dollars. Not sure about this place offering overnighters anymore. Treasure Island Mobile home and RV Park. Located in South San Francisco.

As far as Candlestick RV Parking is concerned, Use due diligence as it is located in a not so friendly area. (nearby public housing) That has it own issues. Safety First.
  • Two Hands: Because parts of the cliff fell away 2-3 years ago.....those spots are gone and parking spots near there now have no hook-ups. But they are spacious.
  • We stayed at Marin RV Park. About 3-4 blocks from the Larkspur Ferry. The ferry will delivery you to Pier 1. For the hiker type, not very far to walk.
Marin spots are tight. Some are very tight.... For us, we would stay there again.
Street cars run up and down to Pier 39.
The cable cars are about two blocks from Pier 1.
For an overview of SF, the double decker buses are right there as well.

  • The San Francisco RV Resort is definitely pricey. Sites on the bluff overlooking the ocean are most expensive and very packed together. There is a city bus stop just about at the entrance which will take you to the nearby BART Station. We like BART but it is even easier to drive the toad into the city and pay for parking. Pay to park at Fisherman's Wharf and use the cable cars to get to downtown as well. Then move to China Town and park in a parking structure to walk to Little Italy.
  • We have stayed at SF RV Resort, 700 Palmetto Ave in Pacifica, 6 times in 6 years, about 3 days each visit. It is OK, but expensive. It is always crowded, so if you decide on this place.....get your res'v in early. Relatively close to BART.

There might be another with a similar name near CandleStick park. BAD reviews. Go to www.rvparkreviews.com and search around.
