The greatest secret for DC camping is Fairfax County Park. Half the price of Cherry Hill & no drone of beltway traffic. No bus outside the gate but a new Metro station with parking not far away. Plenty of very long sites & all of them well spaced. Much more like a far from a city SP than a place to park.
There are a few alternatives that are much cheaper.
Pohick Bay And Little Bennett are nice places. However the alternatives don't cater to the tourist like Cherry Hill.
If you are familiar with DC the alternative places are worthwhile.
However if you are from out of town and unfamiliar with the area.
Cherry Hill is the undisputed king for those looking to sightsee in DC.
