RV Parks in Santa Rosa, CA

Hi All -

I am scheduled for a business seminar to Santa Rosa, CA in November. My wife is to accompany me and she will be staying in the RV alone while I am at the sessions. I'm curious about the quality of the RV parks in Santa Rosa and the surrounding area since even those with high Good Sam ratings have been slammed in public forums. I'm not as concerned with leisure time activities as I am with a safe, qualtiy environment with full hookups, including 50 amp electrical. Can someone advise me on the parks in that area? Thanks.

  • Have stayed at the Petaluma KOA several times in the off season and have always been happy there. The first time there,I guess the young lady, teenage girl, must not have understood me when I said that my TT was 35' overall and we had an Excursion pulling it. We got to our site and the TT barely fit it and had to park the EX next door. Went back to the office and told them, another nice lady and she put us in with the long timers in a huge pull-thru and we have gotten that same site since then just by asking. One of the nicest KOA's we have stayed at.
It is handy to the roads out to the beach for the cheese factories,Olema and above all, don't miss Point Reyes.

x2 - We've stayed here many times during peak camping season and off season. The campground is pretty quiet off season. Mostly full-timers during the winter.
  • I recommend the Sonoma County Fairgrounds if you want to be in the city of Santa Rosa. It is a big gravel parking lot which is typical of most fairgrounds but it's convenient. I would also recommend the Petaluma KOA if you want more of park setting but it is more expensive. Petaluma is about 20 minutes from Santa Rosa during non-commute time and bout 30 minutes during the commute. If you want more of a park setting you can stay at Casini Ranch but it is about 45 minutes away as it is in the Russian River area by the coast.
  • ^ true, but the primary morning commute is south from Santa Rosa and Petaluma. Heading north in the morning will have one traffic, but still opposite commute.
  • Commute traffic on 101 is a real bear so keep that in mind if you have to say outside of Santa Rosa.
  • We stayed at the Petaluma KOA a few weeks ago on a Friday night for one night. Holy smokes - what a noisy Kampground. Not highway noise - other campers and the KOA activies were loud. Nice set up though - I bet it would be fine in November.
  • We always stay at Sonoma County Fairgrounds when visiting daughter. It's very basic but with full hookups. It's fenced and has an on-site campground manager. It works for us and is very reasonable and accepts many camping discount cards. Just make sure there's no special events going on at the time because it can be very busy.

  • I always use the RVpark review site to see what is available and how they are rated.
