- turtle58ExplorerWe stayed at the Rushmore KOA several years ago with a 40ft RV, had plenty of room for 4 slides. Had 3 young children with us and they had a great time in the park. Would stay there again when we go back.
- Dick_BExplorerDefine `best'.
- GloriaBExplorerMay be further away from mt. Rushmore than you want to be, but we stayed at Creekside Campground, small, FHU, south of Deadwood. About 12 or 15 sites, all paved, super nice people there.
- Golden_HVACExplorerI stayed a bit further away from the park than most would want to. I was in Custer State Park, dry camping - my favorite.
This led to a long drive to the park - through 4 tunnels on highway 16, so you get a great view from each tunnel, they are bored out of the mountain in a straight line to the monument. Be sure to get a look at them if you have time.
Also just after leaving the Rushmore monument parking lot, you can turn to the left, go about 1/4 mile, and get a side shot of Washington.
Fred. - Jim_ShoeExplorerIf you're looking for FHUs, there's a couple on SR 244, the same road as Mt. Rushmore. Rafter J and the Rushmore KOA are both pretty popular. The KOA has a lot of stuff to keep kids busy. Take US 16 out of Rapid City. About 30 miles.
I know that the KOA runs a shuttle to Rushmore. Rafter J may also. It beats trying to get parked. - 2oldmanExplorer II
