Don't know about the RV Parks at Colby (we usually stay at Paxico) but when we take I-70 to Chatfield SP we get off I-70 at Exit 352 and take CO-86 west to Castle Rock and then up US-85 (Santa FE Drive) to the park. That route avoids the Denver south traffic and is probably shorter. CO-86 is a little rough for the first few miles but smooths out after that. There are a couple of small towns but not much traffic (Sep 2011 and Sep 2012). When you get into the east outskirts of Castle Rock CO-86 turns right on to Founders Parkway which avoids the Castle Rock downtown traffic. That's a good turn not to miss! Chatfield is a great park although it's off the major hiways a bit. When we were there you had to pay the daily entrance fee in addition to the camping fee so we just bought an annual pass.
