- 74vetteExplorerWe made it today and are staying in Big Bend RV resort. A good sam park and has full hookups. Only 3 miles from the west park entrance. I would recommend it.
- jjson775ExplorerThe best campground hands down is Chisos Basin, very beautiful setting, close to the trailhead for the Window Trail, the visitor center and lodge. We saw a herd of javelina next to the campground. No hookups but we didn't need them even in hot weather because of the altitude. RV size limited to 24 feet. We camped there in a Class B.
- agesilausExplorer IIIThere is actually a small grocery store in Sturdy Butte on the road to the park. It looked fairly new so it may not have been there when you visited. Anything that is hauled to the end of the line like Terlingua or Sturdy Butte will be pricey. Key West is another example. So you are better off buying stuff before you get there. But there is a place to get groceries.
- Thunder_MountaiExplorer III would second the campground inside the Park. We checked it out but our rig was too big. I agree that staying on the west side is better than the east side.
We stayed at some place in Terlingua for a couple of days. The place got good reviews, but we were not impressed. Then on a drive west we found Maverick at Lajitas. Much nicer than any of the campgrounds in Terlingua. Will add about 15-20 minutes to drive into BB.
Where ever you stay, make sure you have everything you need from wine to water to dog food before getting there. You won't find much in Terlingua and you don't want to pay the price if you do. - agesilausExplorer IIIBJ's was closed for the summer when we were there but we stopped to ask for directions. There is a steep climb into the dirt lot which is the campground and the CG was anything but level. It would be my last choice.

Terlingua Ranch
Also, B.J.'s Rv Park in Terlingua - agesilausExplorer IIIYeah but that CG on the River is at the eastern tail end of the road system. So you'll end up driving more than you would if you stayed in Sturdy Butte since a lot of the attractions are in the west half of the park. Especially if you don't drive the back roads (4WD). But it is a big park and you will rack up the miles no matter where you camp. I'm usually with the camp in the park group but not in this case.

Why not stay in the park itself? . . . . The park is huge so the less driving unnecessarily, the better.
My thoughts exactly. - 2gypsies1Explorer IIIWhy not stay in the park itself? Rio Grande Village RV park has full hookups. To us, it's not as pretty as the campground which is right next door without hookups. However, the full hookup place has trees and grass behind your RV. Staying outside the park you'll be on gravel with no landscaping. The park is huge so the less driving unnecessarily, the better.
- TexasShadowExplorer IIX2 for Study Butte or for Big Bend RV park, about one or two miles apart, I think.
Big Bend rv park is much bigger than Study Butte, but not any fancier. Both are good for providing you with the elec, water and dump and that's about it.
