That Bourbon Trail really sounds like a fun thing to do. Adding it to my list.
I went to college near there and we have a nephew in Elizabethtown, so lots of reasons to spend time in KY. Then there's the KY Horse Park, Mammoth Cave, Natural Bridge, the Shaker village...
NC,
The bourbon trail is VERY informative even if you aren't a bourbon drinker...we had a blast.
Elizabethtown has Jim Beam as the closest...you essentially take I-65 to just north of E-town for Beam.
That is the farthest west distillery...a very impressive place actually...
Right near Bardstown is a neat historic town and you have Heaven Hill (Evan Williams and Elijah Craig) and Willett (small craft distillery with killer bourbon). South of there you have Makers Mark and a moonshine distillery near Lebanon KY and then the others are near Lexington which you would hit coming from NC. (Wild Turkey, Woodford, 4 Roses and Town Branch is actually in Lex)...the bluegrass parkway is a great road from Lexington to Bardstown...4 lane divided highway...4 Roses is literally 1/2 mile off that parkway.
I was impressed with the tour...most of them charge for the tours now...back in 2010 I don't think they did based on a buddy's account when he went...but bourbon is "hot" right now..got any Pappy Van Winkle...LOL...
Speaking of Pappy...you have Buffalo Trace up near Frankfort...we need to go see that place on the next trip...
If you are interested...I can PM or email with you...the order that we found to be pretty efficient to do them in...and where not to stay in Bardstown...LOL...
