- KampingKrisExplorerAll depends on where you need to be... We prefer Beal's Point... but then again, we live less than a mile away:) And you can get to everywhere fairly easily from there including I-80 or Highway 50... or surface streets.
Cal Expo would be the next choice.. It's pretty secure.
If you need any assistance... let us know!
(BTW... I consult in the local "tourism" industry...) - freewayrandyExplorerThere's a KOA in Shingle Springs off Hwy 50 about a half hour drive to downtown Sacto. Red Hawk Casino just east of there.
- rvgrammadyExplorerat Cal Expo was just there two wks in Oct. I have a 35' Class A w/tow car was in paved area. I needed blocks under front wheels 4 high. and under jacks. most of the convention goers also needed blocks. So entry steps high up (I do have a outside portable step thankfully) The gravel lot is flat & no problem. It's probably 1/2 short city block in distance to Office Restroom/showers.
Lots of restaurants, Arden Mall is close, Safeway, Save Mart w/n 2 miles.
Easy in/out for big rigs or 5ers.
KOA is nice but way overpriced. It's on west side of Sac. - bp19ExplorerIf you are close to Roseville, the fairground has RV camping.
- Dave_From_AKExplorerWe have stayed at Cal Expo many times as we pass through Sacramento. The American River Parkway adjacent to it is really a great place for dog walking. I also go there to fly my RC planes.
We always stay in the back, gravel section. The sites are bigger, and they are level. The one time we stayed in the front, paved section the sewer connection was uphill from us. The front section is OK for smaller rigs that can place themselves anywhere in the sites, which are quite large. - IluvrvcampingExplorerWe have stayed at Cal Expo a lot over the last 10 yrs.. It's basically a parking lot with FHU. But it is a very clean and safe park. Has two doggie areas if you are traveling with any dogs. The American River Trail runs right behind the Rv Park. We road our bikes to Old Town Sac, several times. The trail also goes clear up to Folsom. We were and still are amazed over how much wild life is in the area. Deer, skunks, raccoons all kinds of different birds. There is public transportation within an easy walk of the park. An awesome mall (Arden Fair) if you like to shop. Plenty of places to eat at and a movie theater right down the street from the park. My husband and I have never had any problems venturing out of the park on foot, even at night. We walked about 3 blocks maybe, to The Outback Steakhouse several times for dinner and drinks and never had any problems. We love Sacramento. It is a really pretty city. The folks at the office at Cal Expo are very friendly and helpful. We haven't stayed at the Folsom Lake Campground. We've been there. It looks okay. But it is a drive from Sac and if you have to travel during the commute times it's horrible. The 49ers park in gold country is pretty. we never have stayed there, but my parents have and we visited them. But it is a ways from Sac. and during Novemember there is fog to be concerned about. The night we drove from there back to Cal Expo was so foggy, it was horrible. So it just depends what your needs are. Both of the other parks are fine, just have a commute with them. If you are coming to see Sacramento I highly recommend Cal Expo. We like to stay on the paved side of the park. Some sites are not level so you might want to ask about that. The gravel side of the park is level but is further away from the bathrooms and park entrance. Check out Old Town Sac if you've never been there.
- Cabo_PaulExplorerX3 for Beale at Folsom Lake + Cal Expo
- KOA was fine for a two nights as we passed through a couple years ago.
I would stay there again. - aerbus32Explorer IIIf you are 55+, I'd recommend Mark J. Minimum stay is for a week.
- mileshuffExplorerWe stay at 49'ers village in Plymouth about 30 miles east of Sacramento. Nice to be out of the city area! Very nice RV park. It is in wine country with numerous wineries nearby.
